Biography

Jane ferch Humphrey ap Hywel was the daughter of Humphrey ap Hywel ap Jenkin of Yns-y-maen-gwyn, Wales and Anne Herbert, daughter of Richard Herbert of Montgomery.[1] Her date of birth is unknown and is estimated.[2]

Jane married, as his 2nd wife, Gruffudd ap Hywel of Nannau, son of Hywel ap Dafydd ap Meurig Fychan of Nannau.[1] The date and place of their marriage is unknown. Gruffudd had been married previously to Elen ferch Tudur Fychan.[1] Jane and Gruffydd had two sons and three daughters:

As both Jane and her husband were Welsh and known by patronymics, I question giving her a different "current last name" of the place her husband came from.

not that far off, since the entry for her son in Richardson is "John Nannau, alias John ap Gruffudd", but I agree she's probably better retaining "ferch Humphrey" as her current last name.

Wales Project: I added Magna Carta Project as co-manager of this profile as it is a part of the Rowland Ellis trail that were are in the process of "badging". Please let me know if this poses any problems.

Humphrey-1597 and Ferch Humphrey-1 appear to represent the same person because: I just proposed a merge of duplicate profiles for her father (Humphrey ap Hywel). I protected ferch_Humphrey-1 based on Cymru Project naming guidelines:

The Magna Carta project has identified a potential Magna Carta trail between Gateway Ancestor Rowland Ellis and Surety Baron William Mowbray. This profile will be developed as it is included in the trail to Sir William Mowbray.
